Scalable IP encode & decode card
Xtreme-ActiveSQX2 is a PCI Express plug-in card that delivers a scalable IP encoding and decoding solution in one piece of hardware — the current-generation successor to Xtreme-ActiveSQX, which only decodes. The card is a dedicated processing platform that receives and decodes H.264 or H.265 IP streams for display on a video wall. At the same time, it can encode captured local video for delivery elsewhere on the network, where it's decoded again for display in another part of the deployment.
Each ActiveSQX2 card carries its own dedicated onboard processor, removing all encode/decode burden from the host system's CPU. This is what lets multiple cards be combined in a single system to scale up total decoding and encoding capacity linearly, rather than competing for shared processing power. Two independent Gigabit Ethernet ports let a single card connect to two separate networks simultaneously — useful for isolating a secure/CCTV network from a general AV distribution network on the same card.
ActiveSQX2 is designed to sit alongside the rest of the Xtreme capture and graphics range in the same VSN chassis, giving a single system the ability to display a mix of local capture sources and IP-network sources — including sources encoded by another ActiveSQX2 card elsewhere in the deployment — on one wall.
Specify Xtreme-ActiveSQX2 over the original ActiveSQX for any new deployment — it adds encode capability the original doesn't have, adds H.265/HEVC support alongside H.264, and is the currently-supported generation. The dual-network Ethernet ports make it a particularly good fit for security/CCTV deployments where the video network needs to stay physically separate from the general office network, but both need to reach the same wall.
If the deployment only ever needs to decode IP sources for local display — never encode local sources out to the network — the original Xtreme-ActiveSQX remains a valid, simpler choice, particularly for extending a system already built on it.
