The printed circuit board on the VIM16 is divided into two areas labelled A and B. The area labelled A connects to one set of Vigilant-Xplus cards and the area labelled B connects to a second set of Vigilant-Xplus cards. The maximum number of Vigilant-Xplus cards in any system is sixteen, therefore, the total number of cards for both sets (A and B) cannot exceed sixteen.

The VIM16 is capable of providing sixteen analog video inputs to each set of Vigilant-Xplus cards it is connected to. Each video overlay window can select any one of sixteen possible video inputs.
